Resolving pain and trauma at the Pain Recovery clinic
Joolz Flynn BSc, SEP, BTAA, CThA, has extensive training and experience in working with people who suffer from physical, emotional and mental pain. She uses two broad approaches side by side, as necessary.
The first approach is to relieve physical pain or discomfort, resulting from accident or injury, or which may be causing, or caused by, overwhelming stress. This involves hands-on bodywork, including myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and massage, in all of which she is both extensively trained and herself a trainer. She is also trained to an advanced level in Bowen technique, a further fascial release technique. Please see the links in the side bar for more details.
Alongside bodywork, Joolz uses Somatic Experiencing, a method for resolving the nervous system’s response to overwhelming stress, or traumatic events. The focus is here on re-regulating the nervous system’s unconscious response to overwhelm. This manifests in conditions such as unresolved chronic pain, shock and anxiety, mood disturbances and difficulty relating to others. There are many other ways in which nervous system overwhelm can affect us. Please see the ‘Trauma’ page for more details.
Joolz is trained in Brainspotting, a method using the tracking of eye movements and positions to access and resolve brain states resulting from trauma.
She is also a certified Practitioner of the Art and Science of Neuro Linguistic Programming endorsed by INLPTA (The International NLP Trainers Association). This work studies how the brain works and explores the relationships between how we think (neuro), how we communicate (linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour and emotion ( programmes). It looks at what is helpful and unhelpful and how we change our thinking, communicating and behaviours to increase our choices in our lives.
